Born in Dublin, Ireland to Tony and Margaret McGregor, Conor spend his childhood in the South Dublin suburb of Crumlin. He started kickboxing just at the age of 12 and was often trained alongside Dean Byrne and Jamie Kavanagh. Following, his move along with family to Lucan in West Dublin, he met UFC fighter Tom Egan and started training together. At the age of 18, McGregor made his mixed martial arts debut in an amateur fight against Keiran Campbell for the Irish Ring of Truth promotion in Dublin. After his fight, he turned to professional and was signed by Irish Cage of Truth Promotion where he began training at the Straight Blast Gym under John Kavanagh.

On 9 March, 2008 Conor made his professional MMA debut where he defeated Gary Morris with a second round knock-out. Since 2011, he had 14 fight winning streak where 9 out of 12 fights were won via first round knockout. He also has the record of the fastest knockouts in the history of MMA after defeating his opponent in just four seconds. In 2012, he won both CWFC Featherweight and Lightweight championship, making him the first European professional mixed martial artist to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously.

On February 2013, UFC signed McGregor to a multi-fight contract while his debut came in April 6, 2013 where he successfully defeated Marcus Brimage via technical knockout in over a minute into the first round. The win also earned McGregor his first “Knockout of the Night” award. On September 2016, he also received his second “performance of the Night” award after defeating Dustin Poirier via first round TKO at UFC 178.

On December 2015, McGregor won featherweight title at the UFC 194 after defeating Jose Aldo. The fight finished in just 13 seconds and McGregor earned yet another record for the fastest recorded fight for a UFC title. On January 18, 2015 McGregor got his third Performance of the Night award after his win against Dennis Silver at UFC Fight Nigh 59 via second round TKO.
